For hemp rope and jute rope adding an oil or paste significantly increases the life span of the ropes. Ropes naturally become softer with time: some people like to let their rope condition by picking up the body oil present in their hands and the skin of the people they tie; others like to use oil or wax to give an extra silky feel from day one.

I will hand oil each of your ropes before shipping.
While some people prefer their ropes to condition naturally others prefer to have their ropes oil treated. I use Jojoba oil, as it is to my mind superior to beeswax treatments and is suitable for vegans. Jojoba is at room temperature liquid but solid at low temperatures, it reduces the friction on the ropes and can help preserve them particularly in ropes used for suspension.
Organic Jojoba oil is available from ebay for people who prefer to oil their own ropes.
