Hand-made Hybrid Jute ropes the ultimate combination of Double and Single ply, medium lay ropes. Length approx 8 meters/26ft, diameter approximately 5.5mm. This rope has been dyed in two colours, red and black.

Hybrid Jute is designed to give the aesthetic feel of a single ply rope, with the ageing benefits of a double ply rope.

This rope has been hand dyed, dried and then dry-treated to remove the majority of the 'fuzzies' you get with jute rope. This process results in a jute rope that is softer than most Jute ropes.

Ready to use out of the packet.

Available for purchase individually or as a set. Orders of three ropes or more receive a pair of free EMT shears*.

I ship worldwide.

All ropes finished with traditional overhand knots.

ROPE SUITABLE FOR:
This rope is suitable for shibari and kinbaku and can also be used for bedroom bondage.

It is advised to use synthetic hemp for uplines as it is not possible to provide an accurate weight test for handmade ropes, and even when such tests are available they are only valid on the day of testing.

COLOUR VARIATIONS
As this rope is hand dyed, there will be colour variations between batches. The dye does not fully penetrate the dense fibres so there is likely to be a lighter patch around knots.

ROPE YARN
I source our yarn directly from manufacturers around the world to exact specifications. I know and care about the rope I use and as such, demand the highest quality yarns to make it. My yarn comes from Bangladesh, which is known for growing the best quality yarns, and has a maximum of 1% JBO content.

ROPE TREATMENT
These ropes are ready to use out of the packet. All the ropes that I make are suitable for vegans, I do not supply or use beeswax in my rope treatment.

If you wish to burn off any remaining 'fuzzies' on the rope you can do so (at your own risk!) using a blue flame. However, please note that this will darken the rope colour and can leave a smoky smell. Care must be taken not to damage the ropes when doing so!

Ropes naturally become softer with time, and some people like to let their rope condition naturally by picking up the body oil present in the skin of the people they tie; others like to use oil or wax to treat rope. Jojoba oil is, in my experience, the best of both worlds, being a natural product that is a wax at low temperatures and liquid at higher temperatures. If you would like your ropes treated with jojoba oil prior to shipping you can do so through the link below - please purchase the same number of rope treatments as jute ropes you are purchasing!

ROPE CARE
When you receive your rope it may still have energy in it from when it was made. Lightly pinching the rope with your thumb and finger and running the rope through your hands will get rid of any excess energy from the rope-making progress.

Generally washing rope is not advised. If you treat your rope with oil or wax, the rope can not be washed without taking it above the melting point of the treatment, as it will prevent water from penetrating the rope. Washing the rope at a high temperature can weaken the rope fibres. If your rope is not oil- or wax-treated, it can be washed in individual laundry bags and then dried under light tension.

SINGLE- OR DOUBLE-PLY?
Some people prefer the appearance of single-ply rope, others can’t spot the difference between single- or double-ply.

Single-ply is stronger in a direct downward pull but is more prone to getting high strands (a greater issue with loose-lay than medium).

Double-play is more abrasion resistant and slightly cheaper.

JUTE, HEMP or BAMBOO?
I am often asked about the difference between the three rope materials I offer, so here is a brief explanation of the difference between them to help you choose the right rope for you.

Jute
For many people jute rope is the traditional rope for shibari. My fully-treated jute rope is soft but still retains its bite! Its a good choice for people who like a more comfortable Jute rope. For those who prefer a rope with more of a bite and more crunch, dry-treated is a perfect choice. Some people find jute a little scratchy - depending on the person this can be a positive or a negative! Jute rope often leaves rope marks on the skin.

Hemp
Hemp rope is softer and heavier than jute and is also stronger. It is less scratch than Jute and gentler on the skin. This extra weight makes a difference to how it feels to tie with hemp rope, it feels ‘slower’, compared to the rapid flinging around of Jute rope - although for some people this is a difference which isn’t particularly noticed some experienced riggers pick their rope type according to the ‘feel’ of a rig they want to do. Because the yarn for my hemp is white, I am able to offer it in both bright and pastel colours. Some people prefer hemp, some people prefer jute! It really is a personal preference.

Please note that my hemp rope does not have the 'farmyard' smell that is often associated with unprocessed hemp ropes.

Bamboo
Bamboo is the softest of the ropes that I make. It is sometimes described as bamboo silk because of its soft and silky feel. It is not as strong as hemp or jute, and is not suitable for suspension. Bamboo ropes are particularly popular for bedroom bondage and self-ties. They are also used for floor work and gentle shibari. Please note: because bamboo rope has some stretch, knots should not be too tightly compacted as it will make them very difficult to untie. Bamboo is less likely to leave rope marks on the skin than hemp and jute.
